Why do you need to schedule an appointment for furniture delivery?

Pourquoi faut-il prendre rendez-vous pour la livraison d’un meuble ?

Shopping online has accustomed us to something almost magical: you click, the package is dispatched, and a few days later it appears in the mailbox, at the front door, or at a pickup point. For a book, a piece of clothing, or a small electronic device, this simplicity has become the norm. But when you order a bed, a sofa, a table, a mattress, or any other bulky piece of furniture, the rules of the game change.

A package weighing several dozen kilos, sometimes nearly two meters long, obviously cannot be slipped into a mailbox. At SENHO, this creates a simple but unavoidable requirement: someone is generally needed at the time of delivery, and in most cases, after placing your order, you must confirm the delivery appointment proposed by the carrier. It is a small additional step in online shopping, but it is precisely what makes it possible to deliver bulky furniture directly to your home.

Why can't furniture be delivered like a small package?

It all comes down to size, weight, and safety. A small package can be handled by one person, placed in a standard van, and left in a mailbox or a secure location. With furniture, the situation is quite different: a bed may be divided into several boxes, a table may have a heavy or fragile tabletop, a sofa may require a specific vehicle, and a mattress may alone take up a large part of the available space in a truck.

These packages therefore require much more precise logistical planning. The carrier must arrange a suitable vehicle, enough space on the delivery route, sometimes several handlers, a coherent delivery order, and above all, the recipient's presence at the scheduled time. The appointment is therefore not merely a matter of convenience for the carrier: it is an integral part of the normal delivery process for bulky furniture.

Ordering online does not necessarily mean the package can be left at the door

We fully understand customers' expectations on this point. When you regularly shop online, you eventually come to view delivery without an appointment as natural: the delivery driver rings the bell, and if no one answers, they may sometimes leave the package in an agreed location, with a neighbor, or at a pickup point.

But leaving bulky furniture outside a door is generally neither practical nor desirable. The package may be too heavy to move afterward, obstruct a passageway, or be exposed to the weather or theft. Some pieces of furniture simply cannot be left in a secure location without the customer's presence. Furniture delivery therefore naturally requires more coordination than a standard package.

The order has been confirmed. Why do I still need to confirm an appointment?

This is probably the most important point to understand. When you place a SENHO order, your purchase is properly recorded and forwarded to our logistics chain. But when the carrier prepares the delivery, they then need to know when you will be available to receive the furniture. They will therefore generally offer you several dates or time slots, and it is up to you to choose the one that suits you.

PLEASE NOTE: RECEIVING AN APPOINTMENT PROPOSAL DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN THAT IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. YOU MUST APPROVE THE DELIVERY TIME SLOT REQUESTED BY THE CARRIER. This step is essential, because we regularly find that a delivery remains pending simply because the appointment has not been confirmed. The customer then naturally thinks: “My order has been placed, so why hasn't my furniture arrived?”, while the carrier is simply waiting for a time slot to be approved on their end.

We therefore recommend that, after placing your order, you monitor your text messages, emails, spam folders, and the tracking information provided after dispatch. This confirmation generally takes only a few moments, but it is what actually triggers the final organization of your delivery.

A requirement, yes. But with more flexibility than you might think

Let's be transparent: having to confirm an appointment represents an additional step in the purchasing process. But this does not mean that the carrier arbitrarily decides when you must stay at home. On the contrary, the principle is generally to offer you several delivery options, from which you choose the time slot that best matches your availability. Depending on the carrier and the type of delivery, you may select a specific day or a narrower time slot.

Appointment-based delivery thus turns a requirement into something much more predictable: you do not spend several days waiting for a truck without knowing when it will arrive; you know precisely when your furniture is due to be delivered.

Carriers with increasingly detailed tracking

Furniture delivery is evolving rapidly as well. Carriers have increasingly effective tools for tracking delivery routes in real time, or almost in real time. Depending on the service used, you may receive a confirmation text message, a tracking link, a more precise estimated arrival time, a call from the driver, or an update to the time slot during the day as the truck progresses along its route.

This development is gradually bringing furniture delivery closer to the experience consumers are used to with small packages. The only difference is that the sofa will never fit in the mailbox.

Let's compare it with buying furniture in a store

The appointment requirement may seem significant when considered on its own. But it should also be compared with the alternative. Buying furniture traditionally generally means taking your car, going to a retail area, looking for a parking space, walking through the store, speaking with a salesperson, comparing the models available on site, waiting for someone to check inventory, sometimes discovering that the desired item or color is unavailable, arranging transportation, and finally ordering the furniture for a later delivery that will also very often require an appointment.

By comparison, ordering furniture online allows you to do most of the work from home: compare, measure, review the specifications, place your order, and then choose your delivery time slot. The requirement has not disappeared; it has simply changed form.

E-commerce can also reduce certain costs

The online sales model offers another advantage. A physical store involves many costs that are invisible to consumers: retail space, rent, heating and lighting, display furniture, sales teams, inventory distributed across several stores, and additional handling. All these costs must, in one way or another, be included in the final price of the product.

A model that is more focused on e-commerce makes it possible to simplify part of this structure. This obviously does not mean that furniture sold online will always be cheaper, but it often makes it possible to offer a better balance between design, quality, and price by devoting more resources to the product, its logistics, and its service rather than to a network of physical stores. This is one of the principles on which SENHO has built its model.

The real trade-off: a few minutes of planning instead of several hours of travel

When you look at the experience as a whole, the trade-off becomes fairly simple. Buying SENHO furniture generally means choosing your product online, placing your order, confirming the appointment proposed by the carrier, and then being present at the time of delivery. This requires a little planning, but it often avoids several trips and several hours spent buying furniture in a store.

The question is therefore not whether to claim that bulky furniture delivery is completely hassle-free. It is not. The question is rather which inconvenience is more acceptable: a trip to the store with all the uncertainties that entails, or a few extra clicks to have the furniture you chose delivered directly to your home?

Why SENHO emphasizes appointment confirmation so much

Because many of the delivery problems we encounter are not caused by a lost package, but by an appointment that is simply waiting to be confirmed. An order may be perfectly prepared, the furniture may be available, and the carrier may have received the packages, yet delivery may remain blocked if no time slot has been selected. This is frustrating for the customer, and just as frustrating for us, because the product may sometimes be only a few kilometers from its recipient but still cannot be delivered.

That is why we prefer to be especially clear: AFTER YOUR ORDER HAS BEEN DISPATCHED, MONITOR THE CARRIER'S TEXT MESSAGES AND EMAILS AND CONFIRM YOUR DELIVERY APPOINTMENT AS SOON AS IT IS PROPOSED. This is probably the simplest thing you can do to avoid an unnecessary delay.

What if you have not received an appointment proposal?

Start by checking your text messages, emails, and spam folders: automated messages containing an appointment-booking link may sometimes be filtered by mistake. Also check your delivery tracking. If your order appears to remain in the same place for several days, or if you have any doubts, contact SENHO customer service. Using the tracking information associated with your order, we can check its status and help you find the link or information needed to arrange your delivery.

Buying furniture online is, above all, a simpler experience

E-commerce cannot eliminate physical realities: a bed will still be large, a sofa will still be heavy, and a table will still have to travel to your home. But digital tools can make everything surrounding that journey much simpler: choosing from home, comparing at your leisure, ordering in just a few minutes, tracking the shipment, choosing your time slot, and then opening the door when the furniture arrives.

At SENHO, we prefer to acknowledge this minor requirement rather than promise an unrealistic delivery experience. Bulky furniture requires an appointment, but a few minutes spent choosing a time slot can save you hours spent searching for, transporting, and arranging your purchase yourself.
